404: page not found

Otherwise the page you asked for isn’t here. This can happen when:

• you guess a page name wrongly;
• you type a page name wrongly;
• I tidy up the site and change the pages;
• you use a bookmark that’s out of date.

If the page was moved or deleted on purpose What’s new will give details. I usually leave a dummy page in place for a few months, or years (but not for every link in the August 2005 update or the January 2011 update, sorry).
